These hands

I was gifted with busy hands that love to create. They look like my grandmother's and although I didn't appreciate it when I was younger, I am grateful to see a part of her on me everyday.

They are happiest when covered in makeup, paint or holding my children's hands.  Thank you Stout Photography for capturing them in action. I know it wasn't about me, but I still love this

Wedding Gurus

In August of 2014, I had the pleasure of working with two amazing and talented artists in the wedding industry. I like to call them Wedding Gurus.  The result were some beyond gorgeous photos and two beautiful brides.  It's working with artist like these two that make my job that much more enjoyable.  Both Rob Futrell and Kathy Knerr specialize in CUSTOM work. So nothing is ever generic or cookie cutter.  I wish I knew them when I was planning my wedding. Their talent and commit never ceases to amaze me.

Rob Futrell is a crazy talented wedding and creative portrait photographer that has immeasurable amounts of passion and energy for what he does. He's the artist behind the lens and a great guy to top it off. Click the photos to see more of his awesome work or visit www.robfutrell.com

Kathy Knerr of Brooch the Possibilities is the artist behind these a-mazing custom brooch bouquets and hair pieces.  Each bouquet, headband, or hairpiece, is custom created with true vintage brooches and jewelry she collects to create your piece.  She can even incorporate "something old and something new".  One of my favorites was a bouquet she incorporated a grandmother's and grandfather's watches for the bride. Beauty Cheat Sheet

As a wife, mom and small business owner spending a lot of time trying to choose which products I want to buy is simply a luxury I don't have.  Not only that…I REALLY don't like spending money on something I don't like.  And let's face it-it NEVER gets returned.

Many of my clients ask which products to buy. The truth is there are so many great and not so great products out there.  But the question is really "Where to start?".  So, I thought I'd share some helpful lingo I've learned working in the biz of cosmetics and skincare.

1)"Instantly Improves the Appearance"-This little doozy is a bit of a trick statement. I really means it provides a temporary cosmetic effect NOT a lasting effect.  These are often is skin smoothing products and will help to hide the look of pores and fine lines. Look for cosmetics such as MAC's Prep and Prime Face which offers  smoothing and illuminating benefits.

2)"HD or High Def"-this is the industry's version of the newest iPhone.  Ideally it means the color will remain true, doesn't contain spf (which can alter the flash payoff) and will create less shine or texture. I use Makeup Forever's HD powder on the T-zone to finish the look for photos

3)"Mineral Makeup" this is both an advertising fad and truth.  Minerals have always been in makeup such as titanium dioxide, mica zinc and silica.  However some mineral product are more about what they DON'T contain which could be emollients and parabens. Titanium dioxide and  and zinc oxide act as UV protectors without the chemicals of some others.

4)"BB Cream" - (Beauty Balm)a throwback to the beauty balms of earlier decades.  These are hybrids of moisturizers, color (makeup) and some skin treatment ingredients.  Similar to a tinted moisturizer.  Some will provide a matte finish while others are dewy.  I love the coverage that Bobby Brown's BB cream offers.  It is also a bit more matte than some which works well for humid summers.

5)"CC Cream" -(Color & Corrective Cream) sister to the BB cream but with corrective skin treatment ingredients and products.  As with the BB creams the finish and coverage will very.

INSTANT EYE LIFT

Are your eyes showing the tell tale signs

of the spring time change?

Here are a few quick makeup tricks to try to give your tired eyes an instant lift~no surgery required!

1)SKIP THE EYELINER UNDER THE EYE:

Instead, opt for lining the top of the lash line.  This focuses the eye to the top of the eyes instead of the lower lash line where the dreaded dark circles live.

2)APPLY A CHAMPAGNE OR FLESH COLORED EYELINER ON THE INNER RIM OF THE EYE

This is one of my favorites! It'm amazing what an instant difference it makes. These colors will camouflage the red/purplish colors that appear on the waterline when we are tired, sick or suffering from allergies making the eyes appear brighter.  They are also more natural looking than a white pencil.  Opt for a NON-WATERPROOF for a safer choice on the waterline.

3) HIGHLIGHT THE TOP OF YOUR BROWS

Apply a concealer, highlighter or matte eyeshadow a shade lighter than skin tone to the top of the brow. Second, softly blend the top edge into the skin.  Applying the same color just under the brow and at the bone by the arch gives a finished look.

4)FILL IN YOUR BROWS

If they eyes are windows to the soul, the brows are the frame.  A defined brow draws the eye upward.  There are so many options, but I prefer a tinted brow wax or a clear wax with a tinted powder.  They sculpt and fill in.  Start at the center of the brow and move outward.  Then with small strokes move inward toward the center.  Gently brush in the direction of the hair to soften (usually up and outward) Don't go too dark in the front of the brow~you don't want to look angry!

5)ADD A POP OF COLOR TO YOUR LIPS

Applying a brighter color lip will draw attention to your mouth takes the focus off your eyes. A brighter color also makes the lips look fuller and more youthful.
